Director of Business Development
Nathan Smith is the Director of Business Development at Internet Lava and a widely respected law firm marketing professional with over 18 years’ experience in the executive management and leadership of marketing functions within the legal space. He has been the Director of Marketing for several large law firms, including Winstead in Texas and Gunster, one of the largest law firms in the southeast United States. He has counseled dozens of law firms in the creation, implementation and execution of marketing and PR programs and personally worked with over one thousand attorneys. He is a published author appearing in industry-specific publications such as Marketing the Law Firm, International Legal Technology Association, and Attorneyatwork.com. He is a member of the Legal Marketing Association, the American Marketing Association, DMOZ, and been the recipient of multiple Addy awards for excellence in past marketing campaigns. Additionally, he is the co-producer of SUP-X: The Startup Expo – the largest conference in the Southeast United States whose sole mission is to bring startup and early stage entrepreneurs together with the angel and venture capital investment community.
Nathan holds a BA in English from Austin College, with overseas education in Tokyo, Beijing and Seoul, along with an MBA from Texas A&M. He lives in Houston, Texas with his wife, two children, eight rescue animals, eleven guitars and 8,500 vinyl records. He is a passionate student of history, literature, film, mid-century architecture and the arts. Before his law firm marketing career, Nathan was a professional musician travelling across the country, and the owner and publisher of the last successful printed music magazine in Dallas, Texas.
